Playing as an innovative way of expanding skill sets – the Projektathlon game for inhouse training
How can we ensure that our customers will receive the best possible service from competent project managers – even when the employees are new? This is a major challenge for a growing workforce like the team of ns»publish› project managers. Projektathlon is a game that represents the ideal platform for training, knowledge transfer and networking – and hence a tangible expansion of the skill sets we offer our customers.
The realisation that playing games has been known for ages as an excellent way of learning (see, for instance, the royal game of Ur dating from 2300 BC or the Asian game Go) is what led to a game called Projektathlon, being devised in collaboration with Spielbüro specifically for ns»publish› project managers.
The game fulfils several objectives at the same time. For one, it gives new project managers in particular the opportunity to experience the complexity of ns»publish› projects by playing Projektathlon and build their skill sets in the simulated game setting. Experienced project managers can test their capabilities, apply their knowledge and work through difficult situations. Besides providing a targeted introduction to the duties of project managers and building up expertise, the game also has an important social side to it, as players get to know each other better during the game.
